China appoints former navy commander as new defense minister

 

- Dong Jun appointed China’s new defense minister by Standing Committee of National People's Congress, state-run media reports

ANKARA (AA) - China on Friday appointed former navy commander Dong Jun as the country’s new defense minister, state-run media reported.

"Dong Jun has been appointed as the new defense minister by the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress," according to Global Times.

Until recently, Dong served as the People’s Liberation Navy commander.

His appointment came after China removed Defense Minister Li Shangfu in October.
