Another Kashmiri detainee dies in Indian custody

SRINAGAR (TSAT report) - Another Kashmiri prisoner has died in the jail authorities custody in the Indian administered Kashmir on Monday night, local media said.

Khurshid Ahmad Wani , 33, who was in Kupwara jail has died last night, Free Press Kashmir, a local online media outlet reported.

This was the second death of prisoner in Indian jail during last six month, according to report.

“He was keeping unwell for some time and died. As soon as his condition fell, he was taken to hospital but died,” the media outlet quoted the Superintendent of Kupwara Jail, Shahbaz Hussain as saying.

However, his brother accused the jail authorities and said Wani was not feeling well from last three months but the jail officials were not allowed him to shifted for treatment in the hospital.

The authorities shifted him to hospital last night when he was taking his last breath, he added.

Wani was arrested along with dozen other Kashmiris in October last year by the Indian security forces.

During last one week, the Indian security forces have killed at least 13 Kashmiris during an encounters, according to local police statistic.

Earlier this month, The All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC), an alliance of 26 political, social and religious organizations formed in 1993 that has led political resistance to Indian rule, in its report revealed that Indian forces killed over 350 people while 484 other wounded in 2021.

“This year total 355 people were killed, among them 49 were civilians, 178 armed rebels (militants), and 128 Indian occupying forces,” Turkish state-run Anadolu Agency quoted the APHC report as stated.

According to the report 1,600 Kashmiris were arrested while the Indian forces this year also destroyed homes of 134 Kashmiris.
