By Zahid Shah

ISLAMABAD - The United States, United Kingdom, and Australia have strongly condemned a deadly suicide bombing on Friday at a religious site in Pakistan’s capital, Islamabad, that has so far killed at least 31 people and injured 169 others.

The attack targeted worshippers during Friday prayers, making it one of the deadliest incidents in the federal capital in recent years. Authorities said the blast occurred inside the religious site, while investigations into the attack are ongoing.

“The United States strongly condemns today’s terrorist attack in Islamabad that left innocent worshippers dead and injured. We condemn all acts of terror and violence, including this attack,” the US Embassy in Islamabad said in a statement.

“On behalf of the United States, I offer our sincere condolences to those injured and to the families and loved ones of those killed by this attack. Acts of terror and violence against civilians and places of worship are unacceptable. The people of Pakistan deserve safety, dignity, and the ability to practice their faith without fear,” Chargé d’Affaires Natalie A. Baker added, reaffirming Washington’s support for Pakistan’s efforts to promote peace and security.

Australian High Commissioner Timothy Kane said he was “shocked and saddened by the horrific attack at a mosque in #Islamabad this afternoon,” adding, “My thoughts are with the victims, their loved ones, and all those affected. Australia stands and mourns with Pakistan at this difficult time.”

UK High Commissioner Jane Marriott also condemned the violence, stating she was “outraged and heartbroken by the horrific attack at Imambargah in Islamabad during Friday prayers.” She added, “My thoughts and prayers are with those killed and injured and their families. Such violence is abhorrent. We stand with Pakistan.”

Pakistani authorities have heightened security following the attack as the country grapples with renewed militant threats. Investigations are underway to identify those responsible.
