#BREAKING Trump announces 5-day pause in strikes on Iran amid “productive” talks

By The South Asia Times

WASHINGTON - A major diplomatic breakthrough may be underway as Donald Trump announced a temporary halt to planned U.S. military strikes on Iran, signaling potential de-escalation after weeks of intense regional conflict.

In a statement posted on the Truth Social platform, Trump said Washington and Iran had engaged in “very good and productive conversations” over the past two days aimed at achieving a “complete and total resolution” of hostilities in the Middle East.

“I HAVE INSTRUCTED THE DEPARTMENT OF WAR TO POSTPONE ANY AND ALL MILITARY STRIKES AGAINST IRANIAN POWER PLANTS AND ENERGY INFRASTRUCTURE FOR A FIVE DAY PERIOD,” Trump wrote, adding that the pause would depend on the progress of ongoing discussions.

The announcement comes amid a sharp escalation in conflict since February 28, when the United States and Israel launched a joint offensive targeting Iranian facilities. According to reports, more than 1,340 people have been killed in the fighting, including Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.

In response, Iran has carried out waves of drone and missile strikes against Israeli targets and U.S.-linked assets across the region, including in Jordan, Iraq, and several Gulf states. These attacks have resulted in casualties, infrastructure damage, and significant disruption to global energy markets and international aviation.

Analysts say the five-day pause could provide a critical window for diplomacy, though uncertainty remains high as both sides continue to exchange threats while talks proceed.

The coming days are expected to determine whether the temporary halt evolves into a broader ceasefire — or if the region slides back toward further escalation.
