UN Security Council condemns deadly terrorist attacks in Pakistan’s Balochistan

By The South Asia Times

NEW YORK - The UN Security Council has strongly condemned the terrorist attacks that struck multiple locations in Pakistan’s Balochistan province on Saturday, which left 58 people dead, including 36 civilians - among them five women, three children, and 22 security personnel.

The Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) has claimed responsibility for the attacks.

In a press statement issued by Council President James Kariuki CMG (United Kingdom), the Security Council expressed its deepest condolences to the families of the victims and to the Government and people of Pakistan, wishing a swift recovery to those injured.

The statement reaffirmed that terrorism in all its forms is a serious threat to international peace and security and stressed the need to hold perpetrators, organizers, financiers, and sponsors accountable. It also urged all states to cooperate with Pakistan in bringing those responsible to justice.

The Security Council emphasized that all acts of terrorism are criminal and unjustifiable, regardless of motivation, and called on countries to combat threats to peace through all measures in accordance with the UN Charter and international law.

Pakistani forces so far eliminated 197 terrorists during the ongoing operations launched soon after the attacks.
