UN express concerns over growing violence against minorities in India

By The TSAT report

NEW YORK (TSAT) - The UN has expressed concerns over the growing violence against minorities in India and said New Delhi should ensure peaceful activities of celebrations.

During his daily press briefing, Farhan Haq, Deputy Spokesman of the UN Secretary-General while responding to a question regarding the spate of violence in India during Eid, he said they hope various communities will work together.

“I think the basic point is our hope that the various communities will work together and that the Government and the security forces will ensure that everyone can go about their activities, including their celebratory activities, peacefully,” Haq said.

His statement came after ongoing tension between Hindu nationalist groups and Muslims in the northern Rajhastan state of India.

In Rajhastan local authorities arrested over 100 people after RSS affiliates groups carried out attacks on Muslim gatherings on Eid day.

The clashes erupted in the state after RSS extremists hoisted a saffron flag on the main mosque in Jodhpur town ahead of Eid prayer and later pelted stones at Muslims when they performed Eid prayer.
