Shehbaz Sharif vows to deepen ties with Türkiye on 102nd anniversary of Republic Day

Islamabad— Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday reaffirmed Pakistan’s resolve to further deepen its brotherly relations with Türkiye, describing the bond between the two nations as one of “one soul and two hearts.”

He was addressing a reception at the Turkish Embassy in Islamabad to mark the 102nd anniversary of the founding of the Republic of Türkiye.

The ceremony, attended by federal ministers, senior government officials, diplomats, and members of the Turkish community, reflected Pakistan’s admiration for Türkiye’s founding father, Ghazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. Buildings across Islamabad and other major cities were decorated with Turkish flags in a show of solidarity and friendship.

“Today we celebrate this great day with our Turkish brothers and sisters, not only in Islamabad but all over Pakistan. The fluttering Turkish flags across our cities reflect that our hearts beat with our Turkish friends,” the prime minister said, aired on PTV News.

Paying tribute to Atatürk’s legacy, Sharif said the “Turkish journey of progress and prosperity” was a testament to his vision. He praised President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan as a “leading light of progress, development, and resilience,” not only in Türkiye but across the Islamic world.

Recalling the 2010 floods, Sharif lauded President Erdoğan’s personal involvement and the Turkish people’s humanitarian response and said Turkiye alwys stood with Pakistan and every difficult time.

The prime minister also referred to recent high-level exchanges between the two countries, noting that both sides had agreed to “share happiness and sorrows together.” He said Pakistan and Türkiye had reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation in political, economic, and defense sectors.

Concluding his remarks, Sharif expressed gratitude to Türkiye for supporting the people of Gaza and Kashmir and reaffirmed Pakistan’s support for Türkiye’s position on Northern Cyprus.
