By The South Asia Times

NEW YORK - Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan raised the issue of Kashmir during his address to world leaders at the high-level 78th session of the UN General Assembly session on Tuesday and said peace in Kashmir will pave way for lasting peace in South Asia.

“Another development that will pave the way for regional peace, stability and prosperity in South Asia will be the establishment of a just and lasting peace in Kashmir through dialogue and cooperation between India and Pakistan,” Turkish President said

He added that his country will continue to support the steps to be taken in this direction.

President Erdogan remarks came just days after his meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on the sideline of G-20 summit.

Kashmiris welcomed President Erdogan statement and thanked him for raising Kashmir issue at the global body.

“@We the people of Jammu & Kashmir thanks  @RTErdogan & welcome your statement to the @UN General Assembly,” Abdul Hameed Lone, a Kashmir leader wrote on X.
