WASHINGTON - US President Donald Trump said on Friday that Iran has been “totally defeated” and is seeking a deal with Washington, but insisted it would not be one he would accept.

Writing on the Truth Social platform, Trump accused the media of downplaying US military success against Iran.

Tehran quickly rejected the claim, saying it has no intention of seeking a ceasefire with the United States or Israel. Iran’s parliament speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf said the country would continue responding to attacks, adding that the “aggressor must be punished and taught a lesson.”

Several major US media outlets, including CNN, have reported developments that contradict President Donald Trump’s claims, while sources in Moscow and Beijing earlier told The South Asia Times that United States officials had quietly approached them seeking help to secure a ceasefire with Iran after Iranian strikes hit key US assets in the Middle East and caused significant damage in Tel Aviv, including attacks on critical installations.

Hostilities have sharply escalated since joint U.S.-Israeli strikes on Iran on Feb. 28, which Iranian sources say killed around 1,300 people, including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Iran has since launched retaliatory drone and missile strikes targeting Israel as well as sites in Jordan, Iraq and Gulf states hosting US military assets.
