40 Dead in Crans-Montana Bar Blaze as Shocking Footage Shows Revelers Dancing Amid Flames

By The South Asia Times

CRANS-MONTANA, SWITZERLAND - At least 40 people were killed and more than 100 injured when a fire tore through Le Constellation bar in Crans-Montana, Switzerland, during New Year’s celebrations, as chilling video footage captured revelers dancing and waving sparklers dangerously close to the ceiling while flames quickly spread.

Investigators believe that fountain sparklers, attached to champagne bottles during the party, likely ignited the fire. Footage from inside the bar has shocked viewers, showing young revelers dancing and waving sparklers dangerously close to the ceiling without attempting to flee, while flames began spreading nearby.

Authorities are examining multiple safety concerns, including whether overcrowding, blocked emergency exits, and flammable foam cladding contributed to the tragedy.

Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, whose citizens were among the victims, called the use of sparklers in such a crowded indoor space “irresponsible.”

Local prosecutors have already interviewed the bar’s French owners and are reviewing building permits, materials used in construction, and compliance with safety regulations. Criminal charges could follow depending on the outcome of the investigation.
