SEOUL – At least four people have lost their lives, six others sustained injuries, and approximately 1,500 residents have been forced to evacuate as wildfires, driven by strong winds, scorched areas of the nation's southeastern region, disaster authorities reported Sunday.

The fire ignited on Friday in Sancheong County, roughly 250 kilometers southeast of Seoul, before rapidly spreading to other areas. Authorities from the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters confirmed that all victims, including the deceased and injured, were found in Sancheong.

Among the six injured, five individuals suffered severe harm, while one sustained minor injuries. Emergency responders continue to provide medical assistance and support for those affected.

Firefighters, aided by helicopters and ground crews, are working to contain the blaze as authorities assess the full extent of the damage. The cause of the wildfire remains under investigation.

With weather conditions posing challenges for containment efforts, officials have urged residents to remain alert and heed evacuation orders. The government has mobilized additional resources to protect communities at risk and prevent further devastation.

As the situation unfolds, authorities continue to monitor the region, emphasizing public safety and the urgent need for coordinated emergency response efforts.
