Pakistan PM says U.S.-Iran peace deal could be signed within 24 hours

By The South Asia Times

ISLAMABAD — Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said on Saturday that the United States and Iran are closer than ever to reaching a landmark peace agreement, with the final deal expected to be signed within the next 24 hours.

In a statement, Sharif said negotiations had made significant progress and Pakistan was preparing for the electronic signing of the agreement once the final details are completed. He added that technical-level talks would follow next week.

“We are closer to a peace deal than ever before. With finalisation likely expected in the next 24 hours, Pakistan is preparing for the electronic signing of the peace deal immediately after,” he said.

The prime minister thanked both the United States and Iran for their commitment to the negotiations and expressed appreciation to regional partners for supporting the diplomatic process.

Sharif also held a telephone conversation with Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, during which the two leaders discussed the latest developments surrounding the proposed agreement. Sharif praised Qatar's support for Pakistan's peace efforts throughout the Gulf crisis.

The remarks come after U.S. President Donald Trump said on Thursday that an agreement with Iran was nearing completion. According to officials familiar with the talks, the deal is expected to be formally signed in Geneva, marking a potentially historic breakthrough aimed at reducing tensions and promoting long-term stability in the region.
