WASHINGTON - Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met US Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Washington on Thursday, reaffirming support for President Donald Trump’s Gaza Peace Plan and vowing to deepen strategic ties between the two countries.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the inaugural session of the Board of Peace, a US-backed initiative aimed at stabilizing and rebuilding Gaza. Sharif was accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar.

According to Pakistan’s Prime Minister’s Office, Sharif congratulated President Trump and Secretary Rubio on the launch of the Board of Peace and said Islamabad was ready to work with the forum on implementing the Gaza peace framework.

Both sides emphasized the importance of Pakistan–US strategic relations and expressed satisfaction over what they described as renewed momentum in bilateral cooperation. They agreed to expand trade, boost economic engagement, and strengthen collaboration in counterterrorism efforts.

In a separate US readout, Rubio thanked Pakistan for supporting the Gaza initiative and for joining the Board of Peace as a founding member. He also offered condolences over recent deadly attacks in Balochistan and Islamabad, underscoring continued cooperation in combating terrorism.

The two officials further discussed collaboration in critical minerals, energy development, and expanding commercial investment opportunities for American companies in Pakistan.
