Russia warns US - Global conflict possible if Washington continues its aggression against Iran

By The South Asia Times

MOSCOW - Russia's top official and deputy chairman of Russia's powerful Security Council Dmitry Medvedev, has warned that escalating US policies toward Iran and other countries could push the world toward a major global conflict.

In remarks to Russia’s state news agency Tass, Medvedev -- who previously served as Russia’s president from 2008 to 2012 -- sharply criticized Donald Trump, accusing Washington of pursuing regime-change strategies aimed at preserving global dominance.

He cautioned that continued escalation could trigger a broader war, saying even a single unforeseen event might ignite a far-reaching confrontation.

Medvedev also claimed that recent developments surrounding Iran have heightened risks for American and Israeli officials.

He argued that the killing of Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei could further inflame tensions across the Shiite Muslim world and accelerate Tehran’s pursuit of nuclear weapons capabilities.

The Russian official criticized European governments for backing US and Israeli actions and questioned the neutrality of international institutions, including the International Olympic Committee, suggesting global bodies are increasingly politicized.

Turning to the war in Ukraine, Medvedev expressed skepticism about ongoing diplomatic efforts, warning that negotiations could be used to buy time for Kyiv to regroup militarily.

He concluded by underscoring the catastrophic consequences of a direct nuclear clash between major powers, saying the risks of miscalculation remain high amid mounting global tensions
