Pakistan Approves New Policy to Train Over 10,000 Engineers Annually

By The South Asia Times

ISLAMABAD – Pakistan on Saturday has approved a new policy aimed at providing training opportunities for up to 10,000 young engineers every year, the government announced following a meeting of the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar.

The ECNEC approved a total of 11 development projects across multiple sectors, including transport, communications, and the environment. In addition, the committee approved a revised PC‑1 for the Dasu Hydropower Project, a key initiative for the country’s energy sector.

Under the new engineering training policy, selected graduates will receive practical training and be placed in various government and development projects nationwide, boosting their skills and creating a pipeline of professionals for ongoing infrastructure and development initiatives.

The meeting was attended by Federal Minister for Planning, SAPM Tariq Bajwa, ministers from Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, various federal secretaries, and provincial heads of development departments, highlighting the collaborative approach of federal and provincial authorities in implementing large-scale development programs.

Officials said the new policy is part of the government’s broader strategy to strengthen technical capacity in Pakistan’s workforce and support sustainable development across multiple sectors.
