Pakistan launches second indigenous EO-2 satellite from China

By The South Asia Times

ISLAMABAD - Pakistan on Thursday has successfully launched its second indigenous Earth Observation satellite, EO-2, marking a significant milestone in the country’s expanding space program.

The satellite was sent into orbit from China’s Yangjiang Seashore Launch Centre, reflecting continued cooperation between Islamabad and Beijing in space technology.

Developed by the Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO), EO-2 is designed to enhance the country’s earth observation and imaging capabilities. Officials said the satellite will provide critical data to support urban planning, resource management, governance, disaster response, and strategic decision-making.

The launch strengthens Pakistan’s satellite fleet, improving the continuity and accuracy of national observations while demonstrating growing self-reliance in indigenous satellite development.

Pakistan previously launched an earth observation satellite in October last year, and the addition of EO-2 underscores the government’s push to modernize its space infrastructure and expand technological capacity.
