ISLAMABAD - At least 17 people were killed and seven others injured in a tragic road accident near Ismaila Interchange in the Shahbaz Garhi area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa early Monday morning, according to an incident report issued by Rescue 1122.

The crash occurred around 07:00 am (local time) when a flying coach collided with a stationary bus parked on the extreme hard shoulder due to mechanical failure.

Rescue officials said the bus was already immobilized when the passenger coach struck it at high speed. The driver of the coach reportedly lost control due to dizziness, leading to the fatal collision.

Rescue 1122 Mardan teams responded promptly to the scene, recovering the deceased and shifting both the bodies and injured passengers to Mardan Medical Complex for medical treatment.

Authorities confirmed that emergency response operations were completed shortly after the incident.

Road accidents remain a persistent concern in Pakistan, often attributed to a combination of deteriorating road infrastructure, over-speeding, and driver negligence, raising renewed calls for stricter enforcement of traffic safety regulations and improved transport standards.
