Pakistan rejects US media report over weapons supply to Ukraine

By The South Asia Times

ISLAMABAD - Pakistan has rejected the latest US media report over alleged supply of weapons and ammunition of Ukraine and termed it “baseless.”

In a statement, the Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch said the latest Intercept story alleging sale of Pakistani weapons to Ukraine to get IMF bailout package for Pakistan is baseless and fabricated.

“The IMF Standby Arrangement for Pakistan was successfully negotiated between Pakistan and the IMF to implement difficult but essential economic reforms. Giving any other colour to these negotiations is disingenuous,” she said.

“Pakistan maintains a policy of strict neutrality in the dispute between Ukraine and Russia and in that context, does not provide any arms and ammunition to them. Pakistan’s defense exports are always accompanied with strict end user requirements,” Baloch added.

Intercept recently claimed that the US helped Pakistan to get the IMF bailout package in return of ammunition supply to Ukraine.
