Pakistan consults Türkiye, Egypt and Japan as momentum builds for US-Iran peace agreement

By The South Asia Times

ISLAMABAD -  Pakistan's Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar held separate telephone conversations with his counterparts from Türkiye, Egypt and Japan as diplomatic efforts intensified following a reported breakthrough in talks between the United States and Iran.

According to Pakistan's Foreign Ministry, Dar spoke with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty, with both sides discussing regional developments and welcoming what they described as encouraging progress toward an understanding between Washington and Tehran.

The ministers expressed hope that the positive developments would help pave the way for lasting peace, security and stability across the Middle East and agreed to remain in close contact on further developments.

In a separate call, Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi welcomed the understanding reached between the United States and Iran and highlighted its significance for regional and global stability.

According to Islamabad, Motegi conveyed Japan's appreciation for Pakistan's mediation efforts, praising its sustained diplomatic engagement and constructive role in facilitating dialogue between the two sides.

In a statement posted on X, Dar said Pakistan "warmly welcomes" the understanding reached between the United States and Iran, describing it as a major diplomatic breakthrough that demonstrates the value of dialogue over confrontation.

He said the development would provide reassurance to the international community and contribute to stability in global markets, particularly benefiting developing countries vulnerable to regional conflicts.

Dar noted that Pakistan had remained actively engaged with all parties throughout the process and thanked Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Türkiye, Egypt, the United Nations and other international partners for supporting diplomatic efforts.

Pakistan has played a prominent mediating role in efforts to end the conflict between the United States and Iran, which began in late February. Pakistani leaders have said a formal signing ceremony for the agreement is expected to take place in Geneva on June 19.
