Pakistan steps up diplomatic outreach as Middle East crisis deepens, Dar holds talks with Türkiye and Egypt FMs

ISLAMABAD – Pakistan's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar held back-to-back telephone conversations with his Turkish and Egyptian counterparts as regional tensions escalate following fresh US and Iranian strikes across the Middle East.

Dar spoke with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan last night, according to a statement from Pakistan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The two leaders discussed the "evolving regional situation" and underscored the importance of dialogue and restraint. Both expressed hope for an "early understanding among all parties which would contribute to lasting peace and stability in the region."

Dar and Fidan agreed to maintain close coordination on regional and international issues of mutual interest and continue high-level engagements to advance the multifaceted Pakistan–Türkiye partnership.

Separately, Dar held a telephone conversation with Egypt's Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty, discussing regional developments and stressing the importance of continued dialogue and diplomatic engagement.

Foreign Minister Abdelatty "appreciated Pakistan's continued mediation efforts," the ministry said. Both leaders expressed hope that ongoing efforts would lead to an early understanding between the parties, contributing to lasting regional peace and stability.

During the call, Abdelatty extended an invitation to Dar to attend the upcoming meeting of the Regional Four (R-4) foreign ministers in Egypt later this month. Dar graciously accepted the invitation.

The R-4 grouping typically includes Egypt, Jordan, and other key regional players focused on Middle East peace and stability.

Both sides agreed to remain in close contact as the situation develops.

The diplomatic outreach comes as Pakistan seeks to reassert its role as a mediator following the collapse of the US-Iran peace deal brokered just weeks ago by Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir. With US bases in Kuwait, Bahrain, and Jordan facing Iranian retaliatory strikes, and Washington warning of further attacks, Islamabad appears to be urgently working to prevent a full-scale regional war.

The back-to-back calls with Ankara and Cairo — two major powers with significant influence in the Middle East — suggest Pakistan is mobilizing all available diplomatic channels to push for de-escalation.
