By The South Asia Times

ISLAMABAD - Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed Islamabad’s steadfast support for Saudi Arabia on Sunday, telling the kingdom’s top diplomat that Pakistan would “always stand shoulder to shoulder” with Riyadh amid escalating tensions in the Middle East.

The remarks came during a meeting in Islamabad with Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, who is visiting Pakistan as part of broader regional consultations aimed at de-escalation.

According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office, Sharif conveyed his regards to King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Mohammed bin Salman, underscoring the deep-rooted ties between the two countries.

Reaffirming Pakistan’s “full and unwavering solidarity,” the prime minister praised Saudi Arabia’s “remarkable restraint” during the ongoing crisis and assured continued support. “Pakistan would always stand shoulder to shoulder with Saudi Arabia,” he said.

Sharif also highlighted Pakistan’s ongoing diplomatic outreach, including efforts to mediate and promote dialogue between the United States and Iran, as part of a wider push to reduce tensions and restore stability in the region.

The prime minister emphasized Saudi Arabia’s leadership role in the Muslim world and called for greater unity among Islamic countries at a critical time marked by conflict and uncertainty.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, National Security Adviser Asim Malik, and senior aide Tariq Fatemi.

For his part, Faisal bin Farhan briefed the Pakistani leadership on Riyadh’s perspective regarding the evolving regional situation and thanked the prime minister for the warm reception.

Both sides agreed to maintain close coordination to advance shared goals of peace and stability, as diplomatic efforts intensify to prevent further escalation in the Middle East.
