2nd meeting of Quadrilateral Group on Afghanistan held in Samarkand

SAMARKAND - The second meeting of the Quadrilateral Group on Afghanistan was held in Samarkand on Thursday, discussed the latest situation in Afghanistan and the region.

The consultative group includes Pakistan, Iran, Russian Federation and China which was attended by the top diplomates of theses countries.

The consultations were led by respective Ministers. In her intervention, Pakistan Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Hina Rabbani Khar  underscored the importance for a coordinated regional approach to promote peace and stability in Afghanistan.

She underlined that the great untapped potential for connectivity could harness unprecedented new opportunities for the region. The MOS underscored the importance of practical and constructive engagement with the Interim Afghan Government.

The first meeting of the Quadrilateral Group was held in September 2021.

Meanwhile, Hina Rabbani Khar also meet with Foreign Minister of Sergey Lavrov, on the sidelines of 4th Neighbouring Countries of Afghanistan meeting in Samarkand, today.

Views were exchanged on the entire scope of bilateral relations as well as on regional and global issues, according to a statement issued by the Pakistan Foreign Office

FM Sergey Lavrov and MoS Hina Rabbani Khar agreed on the importance of high-level exchanges for the mutually benefit of the two countries. They agreed to on the importance of furthering bilateral cooperation in trade and investment, energy, and food security.

They agreed on the importance of continued close consultation to promote the shared objectives of a peaceful, stable, sovereign and prosperous Afghanistan. The two sides also reviewed progress on various economic initiatives under the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
