Pakistan urges full implementation of Gaza peace plan, warns against settlement expansion at UN

UNITED NATIONS — Pakistan called for the full implementation of the Gaza peace plan endorsed by the U.N. Security Council, while warning that continued Israeli settlement expansion and deteriorating humanitarian conditions in the Palestinian territories threaten prospects for a lasting peace.

Speaking during a U.N. Security Council open debate on the Middle East on Tuesday, Pakistan's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, said delays in implementing the ceasefire and President Donald Trump's Comprehensive Plan to End the Gaza Conflict required urgent attention.

He urged the Security Council to ensure implementation of Security Council Resolution 2803, halt Israeli settlement activities, prevent annexation and forced displacement, and secure the release of withheld Palestinian revenues to support the Palestinian Authority.

The Pakistani envoy expressed concern over continued settlement expansion, settler violence, and infrastructure projects in the occupied West Bank, saying they undermine the viability of a future Palestinian state. He also voiced alarm over the humanitarian situation in Gaza, noting that millions remain in severe conditions despite improvements following the ceasefire.

Reaffirming Pakistan's longstanding position, Ahmad said the only credible path to peace is the establishment of an independent, sovereign and contiguous Palestinian state based on the pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

He also called for restraint across the broader Middle East, reaffirmed Pakistan's support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of regional states, urged adherence to commitments under the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, and backed diplomatic efforts to advance peace in Lebanon, Syria and Yemen.
