Pakistan Navy welcomes first hangor-class submarine PNS/M Hangor to Karachi

By The South Asia Times

KARACHI, Pakistan – The first Hangor-class submarine, PNS/M Hangor, arrived in Karachi on Thursday, marking a transformative step in Pakistan Navy's modernization, officials said.

The submarine was accorded a traditional naval welcome, with cadets of the Pakistan Naval Academy presenting a ceremonial salute and a fly-past by PN Z9EC helicopters, according to an official statement issued by Pakistan Navy.

A reception ceremony was held at the Pakistan Navy Dockyard, where Vice Admiral Abdul Munib, Commander Pakistan Fleet, graced the occasion as the chief guest.

According to a navy statement, PNS/M Hangor is equipped with advanced combat systems, modern sensors, Air Independent Propulsion (AIP) technology, and enhanced stealth features, which will significantly augment the navy's combat capability.

The arrival reflects the strong strategic defence cooperation between Pakistan and China. The submarine is named after the original PNS Hangor, which famously sank the Indian frigate INS Khukri during the 1971 war.
