By The South Asia Times

ISLAMABAD - Lieutenant General William Agyapong, Chief of Defence Staff of the Republic of Ghana, met Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir at General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi on Thursday to discuss regional security and defence cooperation.

According to Pakistan's military media wing, ISPR, the visiting military chief was presented with a guard of honour by a tri-services contingent upon his arrival at GHQ.

During the meeting, the two sides reviewed matters of mutual interest, the regional security environment and ways to strengthen bilateral defence ties. They agreed to enhance military-to-military cooperation, with a particular focus on joint training, counter-terrorism collaboration and defence production.

The Ghanaian defence chief praised the professionalism of the Pakistan Armed Forces and acknowledged their role in promoting regional stability, the ISPR said.

Separately, Ghana’s National Security Coordinator, Abdul Razak Osman, held meetings with Admiral Naveed Ashraf at Naval Headquarters and Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu at Air Headquarters in Islamabad.

Lieutenant General Agyapong also attended the meetings, which formed part of broader engagements aimed at deepening security and defence cooperation between Pakistan and Ghana.

The visit reflects growing defence contacts between the two countries as they seek to expand collaboration in military training, security coordination and other areas of mutual interest.
