Pakistan Strongly Condemns Interception of Global Sumud Flotilla by Israel

By The South Asia Times

ISLAMABAD – Pakistan has strongly condemned Israel’s interception of the Global Sumud Flotilla, a humanitarian mission comprising more than 40 civilian vessels carrying nearly 500 international activists seeking to deliver urgently needed aid to Gaza.

In a statement on Thursday, the Foreign Office described the detention of international activists onboard as a “flagrant violation of international law and humanitarian principles,” warning that the act endangered the lives of innocent civilians.

Calling the interception “reprehensible,” Pakistan said it reflected Israel’s continuing aggression and its illegal blockade of Gaza, which has inflicted immense suffering on more than two million Palestinians. “The deliberate obstruction of humanitarian relief is a grave breach of Israel’s obligations as the occupying power under the Fourth Geneva Convention,” the statement said.

The government reiterated its demand for an immediate, unconditional, and permanent ceasefire across all occupied Palestinian territories, the lifting of the blockade on Gaza, and unhindered humanitarian access. Islamabad also called for the release of all detained humanitarian workers and activists, adherence to international humanitarian and human rights law, and accountability for Israel’s repeated violations.

Reaffirming its unwavering solidarity with the Palestinian people, Pakistan reiterated support for their right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent, sovereign, and contiguous Palestinian state based on pre-1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.
