ISLAMABAD - Pakistan and Brazil have discussed expanding bilateral defence cooperation, including naval training, joint exercises and military technology, during a visit by a high-level Brazilian military delegation to Pakistan, the Pakistani military said Wednesday.
The delegation, led by Admiral Renato Rodrigues de Aguiar Freire, chief of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of Brazil’s armed forces, held separate meetings with Pakistan’s naval and air force chiefs, according to a statement from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the military’s media wing.
At Pakistan Navy Headquarters, Freire met Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf. Discussions focused on regional maritime security and strengthening cooperation through professional training, exchange visits and joint exercises.
The Brazilian military chief also appreciated the Pakistan Navy’s Regional Maritime Security Patrols initiative, which Islamabad says contributes to maritime security and regional stability.
During a separate meeting at Pakistan Air Force Headquarters, Freire met Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu.
According to the ISPR, Sidhu outlined the Pakistan Air Force’s modernisation and domestic defence production efforts, including the integration of capabilities in space, cyber operations, artificial intelligence, electronic warfare and conventional military operations.
The discussions highlighted technological development and self-reliance as key elements of Pakistan’s air force modernisation strategy.
Freire praised the professionalism and operational capabilities of both the Pakistan Navy and Pakistan Air Force, the statement said.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to expanding professional exchanges, institutional cooperation and broader bilateral defence ties.
The visit reflects efforts by Pakistan and Brazil to strengthen military-to-military engagement.
