Pakistan, Armenia to Consider Establishing Diplomatic Ties: Ishaq Dar

By Anadolu staff

ISLAMABAD — Pakistan and Armenia have agreed to explore the possibility of establishing diplomatic relations, Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar announced on Friday.

In a post on X, Dar said he had a “cordial conversation” with Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan, during which both sides agreed to consider formalizing ties between the two countries.

“Foreign Minister of the Republic of Armenia, H.E. Ararat Mirzoyan, and I held a cordial conversation on phone today, and agreed to consider establishing diplomatic relations between Pakistan and Armenia,” Dar wrote.

The development marks a significant shift, as Pakistan has historically not maintained official diplomatic relations with Armenia, largely due to its longstanding support for Azerbaijan in the Nagorno-Karabakh dispute.

Analysts say any move toward normalization would signal a recalibration of Pakistan’s foreign policy in the South Caucasus region.

The development came after recent agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia to end over 30 year conflict.

The agreement was signed in Washington on Aug. 8 in the presence of US President Donald Trump.

Since 1991, tensions have persisted between Baku and Yerevan after Armenian forces seized Karabakh and seven surrounding regions internationally recognized as part of Azerbaijan.
