Pakistan Slams Indian PM Modi’s Remarks as “Inflammatory and Irresponsible”

By The South Asia Times

ISLAMABD — Pakistan's Foreign Office on Wednesday has strongly condemned recent remarks made by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, calling them "inflammatory" and a reflection of a troubling disregard for international norms and regional stability.

In a sharply worded statement issued , the Foreign Office expressed regret over what it described as yet another attempt by the Indian Prime Minister to deflect attention from his government’s controversial domestic policies and historical revisionism through provocative rhetoric against Pakistan.

“It is regrettable, though not entirely unexpected, that the Indian Prime Minister has once again delivered an inflammatory monologue, setting aside the realities of internal repression and historical revisionism,” the statement said.

Particular concern was raised over Modi’s reference to weaponizing water resources — a move Pakistan considers a dangerous deviation from long-standing international treaties and norms. “His references to weaponizing water, a shared, treaty-bound resource, reflect a troubling departure from international norms,” the Foreign Ministry noted.

The statement further criticized India’s track record on human rights and regional conduct, citing New Delhi’s alleged involvement in extraterritorial assassinations and its continued occupation of Jammu and Kashmir. “It is ironic that a state engaged in systematic repression and foreign subversion attempts to portray itself as a victim,” the Foreign Office added.

Pakistan also condemned the ideological direction of the Indian government, saying that under its current leadership, mob violence, hate speech, and the targeting of minorities have become normalized. "Such acts may serve domestic optics but cannot withstand international scrutiny," the statement warned, questioning India’s credibility as a responsible regional actor.

Urging a return to diplomatic principles, Pakistan called on India to respect sovereign rights, uphold treaty commitments, and adopt restraint in rhetoric and actions. “Jingoism may stir applause on the campaign trail, but it undermines long-term peace and stability,” the statement said.

The Foreign Office concluded by appealing to India’s youth to reject divisive politics and instead work toward a future built on dignity, cooperation, and mutual respect in South Asia.
