Lakki’s citizens witness stagnation melting into momentum

By The South Asia Times

LAKKI MARWAT: After decades of stagnation, Lakki Marwat is finally making headlines—not for neglect or unrest, but for real, on-the-ground progress.

Change is no longer just a slogan; it's a visible, tangible, and accelerating reality.

Known for his discipline and results-driven approach, the young and dynamic Deputy Commissioner Hamidullah Khan is spearheading the gigantic task of improving the district on all fronts—especially addressing the volatile security situation and ensuring the provision of facilities and improved infrastructure across the district without discrimination.

He is instilling accountability, urgency, and public trust—things that have been lacking for years. In short, his leadership marks a sharp departure from the traditional bureaucratic detachment.

In recent weeks, the district has witnessed a wave of development activity rarely seen in its recent history. From cleaner roads to improved public spaces, enhanced security coordination to better community engagement—change is no longer a distant promise; it’s happening now.

“We’ve waited decades for this kind of attention,” observed an elder in Serai Naurang.

Breaking with the past, where officials often remained detached and inaccessible, the current administration has implemented an open-door policy to directly address citizens’ grievances. Assistant commissioners and department heads are now routinely in the field, identifying problems firsthand and delivering prompt solutions.

“This district was used to a certain administrative lethargy,” remarked one official.

“But DC Hamidullah Khan’s hands-on leadership has jolted the system awake. He’s instilled accountability, urgency, and, above all, public trust.”

A key focus of the administration is addressing Lakki Marwat’s long-standing security concerns. DC Khan has actively engaged with all stakeholders to restore peace and improve coordination between law enforcement and the community—a move seen by many as a turning point for the region.

Infrastructure on the Rise

On the infrastructure front, changes are visibly taking shape. Sanitation drives are being conducted along the Indus Highway. A beautification campaign is underway, which includes, clearing overgrowth, planting Dhakki date palms, installing 50 solar-powered street lights along a 6-kilometer stretch from Gambilla to Tajazai

There are also plans to transform the road median into a public relaxation space—a first for the area.

In a significant move toward organized urban management, transport hubs are being revamped. Encroachments are being cleared, unregulated roadside eateries are being replaced with standardized portable stalls, and new passenger waiting areas are being established to improve safety and orderliness for daily commuters.

Health and education—two of the most neglected sectors in the district—are now receiving focused attention. Revolutionary initiatives are underway to improve both the accessibility and quality of services in these critical areas.

Meanwhile, a 16-foot-wide access road to the upcoming Levies Quarters has been approved, enhancing mobility and operational efficiency for the security forces.
