Israel and Iran Exchange Missile Strikes in Escalating Regional Confrontation

By The South Asia Times

DUBAI - In a dramatic escalation of regional tensions, Israel and Iran exchanged missile strikes on Saturday, with both sides targeting critical infrastructure and urban centers, according to regional media reports.

Israeli forces reportedly launched missiles at Iran’s nuclear facility in Isfahan, aiming at what Tel Aviv described as a strategic deterrent target. The extent of the damage to the Isfahan nuclear site, one of Iran’s key nuclear research and enrichment facilities, remains unclear. Iranian authorities have not confirmed the impact but described the Israeli strike as “an act of war.”

In retaliation, Iran launched a barrage of missiles at key locations in Haifa and Tel Aviv, causing widespread destruction. Iranian state media claimed the strikes hit Israeli command and intelligence centers, while video footage circulating online showed smoke rising from several damaged buildings in Tel Aviv. Initial reports indicate significant infrastructural damage, though casualty figures have not been officially released.

Local sources and emergency responders in Israel confirmed heavy damage in both cities, with several buildings reduced to rubble and dozens of injuries reported. Hospitals in Tel Aviv are reportedly overwhelmed as emergency services work to clear debris and rescue survivors.

This latest exchange of hostilities marks one of the most intense direct confrontations between Israel and Iran in recent history, sparking renewed fears of a broader regional war. International calls for restraint have grown louder, with the United Nations and major world powers urging both nations to step back from further escalation.

As of now, no ceasefire has been announced, and the situation remains highly volatile.

Iranian official on Saturday said that 430 people were killed and over 3,000 injured in Israeli attacks since June 13.

While at least 25 killed and 2,500 also injured in Israel.
