Pakistan FM Ishaq Dar suffers minor fracture but continues duties during high-level talks

By Imran Nasir

ISLAMABAD - Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar sustained a minor injury, including a hairline fracture in his shoulder, while receiving Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty on Sunday, but continued to perform his official duties throughout the day, according to his family.

In a statement shared on social media, Dar’s son Ali Dar said his father completed a series of “highly important meetings” despite the injury, taking painkillers to manage the discomfort.

“He carried on with all key engagements in an exemplary manner despite being injured while welcoming the Egyptian foreign minister,” Ali Dar said in a translated post from Urdu, adding that a medical examination was conducted later in the evening at the family’s insistence.

“X-rays are overall satisfactory. There is a hairline fracture in the shoulder, which will be managed with medication and precautionary measures over the coming days,” he said, thanking well-wishers for their prayers and support.

The incident occurred at the Foreign Ministry as Islamabad hosted foreign ministers from Saudi Arabia, Türkiye and Egypt for a crucial round of diplomacy aimed at de-escalating the Middle East crisis and facilitating dialogue between the United States and Iran.

Despite his injury, Dar chaired multiple meetings and later expressed optimism that US–Iran talks could soon be held in Islamabad, voicing hope that ongoing diplomatic efforts would help bring an end to the crisis.
