Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei confirmed dead after US–Israel strikes

By The South Asia Times

Tehran - Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has been confirmed dead following a large-scale military operation by the United States and Israel, Iranian state media and multiple international outlets reported on Sunday,

The 86-year-old cleric, who had led the Islamic Republic since 1989, was killed during joint strikes on Tehran, according to official broadcasts marking his passing and announcing 40 days of national mourning.

U.S. President Donald Trump earlier declared on social media that Khamenei had been killed in the attacks, describing his death as “justice for the people of Iran” and framing the operation as a critical moment in the conflict between Tehran and Washington.

The strikes, which targeted government and military sites across Iran, also reportedly killed several senior Iranian officials and family members of Khamenei, according to state media accounts. Tehran’s official broadcasters called his death “martyrdom” and held the U.S. and Israel responsible for the “aggression.”

Iran announced that it will take revenge of death of their leader.
