Iran Launches Missile Strikes on Israel, Killing Three and Injuring Over 100

By The South Asia Times

Tel Aviv - In a major escalation in the Middle East, Iran launched a barrage of missile attacks on Israel on Friday evening, targeting key urban centers including Tel Aviv and Rishon LeZion. The strikes mark a direct retaliation by Tehran following recent Israeli military actions, intensifying fears of a broader regional conflict.

According to Israeli emergency services, at least three people were killed and more than 100 others injured, several critically, as dozens of missiles rained down on densely populated areas. The attacks caused widespread panic, with sirens wailing through the night and civilians rushing to bomb shelters.

Significant destruction was reported in Tel Aviv, where multiple buildings were reduced to rubble. Fires broke out in residential and commercial districts, while rescue teams worked through the debris to search for survivors. In the southern city of Rishon LeZion, several high-rise buildings were damaged, and a shopping complex partially collapsed following a direct hit.

Iran’s state media confirmed the operation, labeling it a “legitimate response” to what it described as Israeli violations of Iranian sovereignty. "This is a warning to the aggressor that Iran will not tolerate acts of war without consequence," the statement read.

Israeli defense officials acknowledged the strikes, calling them “an unprecedented act of aggression,” and said air defense systems intercepted a number of incoming projectiles but were overwhelmed by the scale of the attack.

The United Nations and several world powers have called for immediate de-escalation, warning that continued hostilities could ignite a full-scale regional war.

This is a developing story.
