Iran claims heavy US losses, destruction of key installations in ongoing war

By The South Asia Times

TEHRAN - Iran has claimed that its retaliatory strikes have inflicted heavy casualties and major military losses on US forces in the region, according to a report by state-linked Press TV.

Citing a senior intelligence official, the report said at least 200 US personnel were killed and more than 3,000 wounded during the first week of fighting following the outbreak of war on Feb. 28.

The official also alleged that dozens of American military assets, including aircraft, missile platforms, and air defense systems, were destroyed.

The claims could not be independently verified, and US officials have not confirmed the figures.

The report further alleged significant depletion of US and Israeli air defense capabilities, describing the situation as “very serious.” Iran said it has carried out dozens of retaliatory strikes targeting Israeli and US military sites across the region.

Tensions in the Middle East have escalated since the United States and Israel launched a large-scale attack on Iran on Feb. 28, killing more than 1,300 people, including then-Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. Iran has since responded with missile and drone attacks targeting Israel and U.S.-linked sites across the region.

Separately, speculation has grown over the status of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who has not appeared publicly since March 10 following recent missile strikes, though no official confirmation has been provided.
