Iran's Foreign Minister accuses Israel of seeking to manipulate US policy after report on alleged influence campaign

By The South Asia Times

TEHRAN -  Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi on Friday accused Israel of conducting a campaign to influence US politics, hours after reports emerged alleging that President Donald Trump's ex-campaign manager was involved in an Israeli-backed effort targeting the MAGA political base.

In a post on X, Araghchi wrote:

"Americans are being warned of Foreign Influence.

How about the extensive Israeli Campaign to bamboozle the U.S. Administration into an unwinnable war of choice?

Even worse: Israel is using U.S. taxpayer dollars to silence any U.S. critics.

It will all soon unravel."

His comments came after TIME magazine reported that Brad Parscale, who managed Trump's 2020 reelection campaign and previously led his digital operations, is involved in an Israeli-funded social media initiative aimed at influencing conservative American audiences and countering growing criticism of Israel within the MAGA movement.

According to the report, the campaign sought to shape online debate over Israel and US policy toward Iran following recent diplomatic developments. The report said the initiative focused on producing and amplifying content across platforms including X, TikTok, YouTube and Instagram.

Neither the Israeli government nor Parscale had publicly responded to Araghchi's remarks as of Friday.

Araghchi's statement reflects continuing tensions between Tehran and Israel following months of military confrontation and diplomatic negotiations involving the United States.

Iranian officials have repeatedly accused Israel of attempting to derail diplomacy between Washington and Tehran and have alleged that Israeli lobbying efforts seek to push the United States toward military confrontation.

The exchange also comes amid heightened scrutiny in the United States over foreign influence operations and online political campaigns, as policymakers debate transparency requirements for lobbying and digital messaging linked to foreign governments. Reports regarding the alleged Israeli-linked campaign have fueled discussion among US political commentators, though the allegations have prompted differing interpretations and responses.
