BREAKING: Earthquake Shakes Pakistan–Afghanistan Region, Sparks Panic

By The South Asia Times

ISLAMABAD- A strong earthquake struck the Pakistan–Afghanistan region on Friday evening, sending residents rushing into the streets in panic as tremors were widely felt across northern parts of Pakistan.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, the quake measured 6.1 in magnitude. The epicenter was located about 35 km south of Jurm in Afghanistan, with a depth of 186 kilometers.

The United States Geological Survey also reported 5.8 magnitude seismic activity in Afghanistan.

Strong tremors were felt in Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Gilgit-Baltistan, as well as parts of Afghanistan. Eyewitnesses said people hurried out of homes, offices, and shops in fear, gathering in open areas as the shaking continued for several seconds.

There were no immediate reports of casualties or major damage, but authorities are monitoring the situation closely.

The region lies in a seismically active zone where earthquakes are frequent due to the collision of the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates.
