China Condemns U.S. Military Strikes in Venezuela, Calls for Dialogue and Respect for Sovereignty

By The South Asia Times

United Nations – China has strongly condemned the United States’ recent military strikes in Venezuela and the capture of President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, calling the actions “unilateral, illegal, and bullying,” and urging Washington to respect international law and return to diplomatic solutions.

Speaking at an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council, Ambassador Sun Lei, Chargé d’Affaires of China’s mission to the UN, warned that the U.S. actions undermined Venezuela’s sovereignty and violated the principles of the UN Charter, including non-interference and the peaceful settlement of disputes.

Sun emphasized that military force cannot resolve political crises, highlighting past U.S. interventions in Latin America, the Middle East, and elsewhere as cautionary examples of instability and suffering caused by unilateral actions.

China expressed full support for Venezuela and other Latin American and Caribbean countries in safeguarding their independence and development paths, and urged the U.S. to ensure the safety of Maduro and his wife while ceasing any attempts to topple the Venezuelan government.

The Chinese envoy also called on the international community to promote dialogue, de-escalation, and regional peace, reaffirming China’s commitment to solidarity, fairness, and the status of Latin America and the Caribbean as a zone of peace.
