China, UAE Pledge Deeper Cooperation in Oil and Gas Sector

By The South Asia Times

UAE- China and the United Arab Emirates have agreed to further strengthen cooperation in the oil and gas sector as part of broader efforts to deepen their comprehensive strategic partnership, following talks between Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan in Abu Dhabi.

During the meeting on Friday, Wang Yi said China and the UAE are “natural friends and partners,” citing compatible development strategies, similar governance philosophies, and highly complementary economies. He noted that cooperation in energy—particularly oil and gas—has long been a cornerstone of bilateral relations and has delivered tangible benefits to both countries, according to Chinese Foreign Ministry statement, issued in local language.

Wang said China is ready to work with the UAE to deepen cooperation in traditional areas including investment, oil and gas, and infrastructure, while also expanding collaboration in emerging sectors such as new energy and technological innovation. He emphasized that strengthening energy ties would support high-quality development under the Belt and Road Initiative.

The Chinese foreign minister highlighted that over more than 40 years of diplomatic relations, China and the UAE have maintained stable and resilient ties despite global changes. He credited the strategic guidance of President Xi Jinping and UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan for providing strong political momentum to bilateral cooperation.

Sheikh Abdullah said UAE-China relations have become a model of state-to-state relations based on mutual respect and trust. He reaffirmed the UAE’s firm support for the one-China principle and expressed readiness to expand cooperation with China in energy, trade, investment, science, and technology.

Both sides also discussed advancing China-Arab cooperation and expressed support for accelerating negotiations on a China–Gulf Cooperation Council free trade agreement, which they said would further enhance energy and economic ties.
