Pakistan launches indigenous EO-3 satellite in historic milestone

By The South Asia Times

BEIJING - Pakistan achieved a historic milestone in its space program on Saturday with the successful launch of the country's indigenous Electro-Optical Satellite (EO-3) from China's Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center (TSLC), the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) announced.

The launch marks a significant step forward in Pakistan's journey toward self-reliance and technological excellence, according to a statement from the military's media wing.

The EO-3 satellite will provide high-quality imaging data expected to revolutionize multiple sectors, including urban planning, disaster management, food security, and environmental protection, ISPR said.

The successful launch will serve as the "edifice for an integrated Earth Observation System to support national priorities across multiple sectors," the statement read, adding that it will contribute to sustainable socio-economic development.

On this historic occasion, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif appreciated the professional excellence and commitment of SUPARCO's engineers and scientists.

The prime minister also acknowledged the "unwavering support of Pakistan's all-weather friend China in the space domain," ISPR said.

The Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) executed the launch from the Chinese space center, continuing a longstanding partnership between the two countries in space technology. The achievement comes as part of Pakistan's broader efforts to develop indigenous capabilities in satellite technology and earth observation systems.
