Security Sources Reveal: “Missing” Sohaib Langov Was Killed in Counterterrorism Operation

By The South Asia Times

Islamabad — Security officials have revealed that Sohaib Langov, previously listed by activists as a “missing person,” was in fact a militant neutralized during a counterterrorism operation in Qalat on July 21. Intelligence had confirmed Langov’s involvement in anti-state violence, officials said.

According to security sources, Langov’s case is not an isolated incident but part of a wider trend where individuals involved in terrorism are falsely portrayed as victims of enforced disappearances. “He was not abducted—he was confronted during an armed operation based on credible intelligence,” a senior official said.

Activist groups such as the Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) and figures like Mahrang Langov have come under sharp criticism for labeling militants as missing persons while remaining silent on attacks targeting Pakistani citizens. “Why do they never condemn the violence but mourn those appearing on their protest posters?” the official asked.

Authorities further alleged that groups like BYC and certain media platforms are engaged in “narrative warfare,” deliberately misrepresenting counterterrorism actions to undermine state institutions.

The military emphasized that operations are conducted under legal frameworks, including Article 245 and anti-terror protocols. “The war on terror targets militants, not ethnic groups,” officials stated, accusing activists of politicizing and ethnicizing security operations.

Sohaib Langov’s appearance in earlier protests, alongside known separatist figures, has been cited as further proof undermining the “innocent activist” narrative.

“The state will never apologize for defending its sovereignty,” a security source concluded.
