Azerbaijan Army Chief meets Gen. Asim Munir, confers Patriotic War Medal

ISLAMABAD — Colonel General Karim Valiyev, First Deputy Minister of Defence and Chief of the General Staff of the Azerbaijan Army, called on Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir at the General Headquarters (GHQ) on Wednesday, the military said.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the two sides discussed matters of mutual interest, with particular focus on the prevailing global and regional security situation. COAS reaffirmed Pakistan’s fraternal ties with Azerbaijan and pledged to further strengthen bilateral relations, congratulating the visiting general on the successful conclusion of the Azerbaijan–Armenia peace agreement.

General Valiyev lauded the professionalism of Pakistan’s armed forces and their successes in Maarka-e-Haq, Operation Bunyanum Marsoos. He also extended best wishes for Pakistan’s upcoming Independence Day and Victory Celebrations.

During the meeting, General Valiyev conferred Azerbaijan’s prestigious Patriotic War Medal on COAS Asim Munir, on behalf of President Ilham Aliyev, in recognition of his services in advancing bilateral military cooperation.

Both leaders reiterated their commitment to enhancing defence collaboration and working jointly for regional peace and stability.

Earlier, the Azerbaijani general was presented with a guard of honour and laid a floral wreath at the Yadgar-e-Shuhada.
