Six family members killed in a house fire in northeastern Australia

CANBERRA - At least six people including the father and his five children were killed in a tragic fire incident in the northeastern Australian state of Queensland. 

 

According to local police, the fire caused huge damage to properties in the area as it also spread to neighboring houses. 

 

“Emergency services were called to the Todman Street property at approximately 6.20am today,” said the police in a statement.

Police have located the bodies of six people at the scene of a house fire on Russell Island including a 34-year-old man and five boys, aged 11, 10, twins aged four-years-old and a three-year-old were all unaccounted for.

 

“Once the fire was extinguished this afternoon by Queensland Fire and Emergency Services an initial examination of the scene located the bodies of six people, believed to be a man and five children,” it said and added a port-mortem and scientific examination will take place to confirm the identities of the deceased.

“A 28-year-old woman and a 21-year-old woman were able to escape the property and were transported to hospital where they are in a stable condition.”

Investigations are continuing to determine the cause of the fire.
