Pakistan appointed Gen.Asim Munir as first Chief of Defence Forces of country

Islamabad – President Asif Ali Zardari on Thursday  approved the appointment of Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir NI(M), HJ, as the country’s first Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) for a period of five years, the President’s Secretariat confirmed.

 

According to a press release issued by the Media Wing of the Presidency, the summary for the appointment was submitted by the Prime Minister and subsequently approved by the President.

 

In a separate decision, President Zardari also approved a two-year extension in the service of Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmad Babar Sidhu NI(M), HJ, Chief of Air Staff. The extension will take effect from the completion of his current tenure on March 19, 2026.

 

The President extended his best wishes to Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir in his dual capacity as Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, as well as to Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmad Babar Sidhu for their continued service and successful tenures.

 

The appointment of the Chief of Defence Forces is aimed at strengthening coordination among the armed forces and enhancing the country’s overall defence preparedness.
