Arab and OIC Leaders Meet President Trump in New York, Call for Immediate Gaza Ceasefire

By The South Asia Times

New York — Leaders of eight Arab and OIC member states met with U.S. President Donald J. Trump at the United Nations Headquarters, urging urgent action to end the war in Gaza and address the humanitarian catastrophe unfolding in the besieged territory.

The multilateral summit, convened on the sidelines of the 80th session of the U.N. General Assembly, was co-hosted by President Trump and Qatar’s Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. It was attended by King Abdullah II of Jordan, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, Pakistani Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, Egyptian Prime Minister Moustafa Kamal Madbouly, UAE Deputy Prime Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud.

The Arab and OIC leaders thanked Trump for initiating the meeting and highlighted the “unbearable” humanitarian toll in Gaza, stressing that the conflict’s repercussions extend beyond the region to the wider Muslim world. They rejected any forced displacement of Palestinians and called for the safe return of those who had fled.

The leaders collectively demanded an immediate ceasefire to halt the violence, secure the release of hostages, and facilitate the entry of urgent humanitarian aid as a first step toward a just and lasting peace. They also stressed the need to stabilize the West Bank and protect Jerusalem’s holy sites, while supporting reforms within the Palestinian Authority.

Looking ahead, participants backed a comprehensive reconstruction plan for Gaza under Arab and OIC frameworks, supported by international partners. They pledged to cooperate with the U.S. in shaping a stabilization strategy that includes security arrangements and rebuilding the lives of Palestinians.

Trump’s delegation included Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Treasury Secretary, and Special Envoy for the Middle East Steve Witkoff. The meeting concluded with a commitment to maintain momentum, framing the summit as the beginning of a new process toward peace and regional cooperation.
