ABBOTTABAD, Pakistan — Authorities in Abbottabad, a city in Pakistan’s northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, have stepped up efforts to improve sanitation, waste disposal and street lighting under the Clean and Green Abbottabad initiative.
Deputy Commissioner Hameedullah Khan, accompanied by the Additional Assistant Commissioner-I, inspected several key areas of the city at night, including Empire Road, Kunj, Pan Chowk, the Supply area and Eidgah Road.
The inspection was conducted in line with the directives of the commissioner of Hazara Division and the vision of the chief secretary of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, according to the district administration.
During the visit, Khan reviewed street lighting and sanitation arrangements and spoke with residents to gather feedback on municipal services and other public concerns. He directed the relevant departments to take immediate corrective measures to address identified problems.
The Tehsil Municipal Administration (TMA) was instructed to improve sanitation, clear existing waste dumping points and ensure that garbage is transported to and disposed of at designated sites.
Authorities also announced that nighttime cleaning operations would begin the following day to accelerate implementation of the initiative.
Shopkeepers were urged to avoid dumping rubbish outside their businesses and to ensure that waste is disposed of properly.
The district administration said regular field inspections and coordination among government departments would continue to improve cleanliness, street lighting and municipal services, while ensuring a timely response to public complaints.
The initiative is part of local authorities' efforts to improve urban sanitation and public service delivery in Abbottabad.
