9 terrorists killed by Pakistan army in northwestern Pakistan

By The South Asia Times

RAWALPINDI — At least nine terrorists were killed by Pakistani security forces during two separate intelligence-based operations in northwestern Pakistan, the military said in a statement on Sunday.

The first operation was carried out in Dera Ismail Khan district following reports regarding the presence of khwarij in the area, according to ISPR.

During the operation, security forces effectively engaged the militants’ hideout, leading to an intense exchange of fire in which four khwarij were neutralised.

In a separate intelligence-based operation conducted in Bannu district, security forces engaged another group of khwarij. As a result of the ensuing fire exchange, five more militants were killed, ISPR said.

"Weapons and ammunition were recovered from the killed Indian-sponsored khwarij, who, according to the military, had remained actively involved in multiple terrorist activities against security forces and law enforcement agencies, as well as in targeted killings of innocent civilians," it said.

ISPR said sanitisation operations are continuing in the areas to eliminate any other Indian-sponsored khwarij who may be present. The statement reiterated that the relentless counter-terrorism campaign being carried out by Pakistan’s security forces and law enforcement agencies under the vision of “Azm-e-Istehkam,” as approved by the Federal Apex Committee on the National Action Plan, will continue at full pace.

The military emphasized its resolve to wipe out the menace of foreign-sponsored and supported terrorism from the country and ensure lasting peace and stability.
