ISLAMABAD - At least 22 security personnel, including three officers, lost their lives in a Pakistani military helicopter that crashed in Azad Kashmir on Wednesday.

The deceased include "one colonel, two major-rank officers and 19 soldiers," security sources said, confirming the tragic outcome of the Mi-17 helicopter crash near Muzaffarabad.

The aircraft went down shortly after takeoff due to a reported technical fault in the mountainous region of Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

Pakistan's Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the military's media and public relations wing, confirmed that all personnel on board embraced martyrdom in the accident. The military has ordered a board of inquiry to determine the exact technical cause of the malfunction that led to the crash.
