Pakistan says 145 terrorists killed, 48 security personnel and civilians dead in Balochistan attacks

By The South Asia Times

Quetta, Pakistan - Pakistani officials said on Sunday that 145 terrorists  were killed over the past 40 hours, while 48 security personnel and civilians lost their lives in coordinated terrorist attacks carried out across the southwestern province of Balochistan on Saturday.

Speaking to reporters in Quetta, Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti said authorities would pursue a decisive crackdown against militant groups, adding that the deaths occurred during ongoing security operations.

“This is the highest number since Pakistan has been fighting this war on terror,” Bugti said, adding that the bodies of the militants killed were in government custody.

Pakistan’s military said on Saturday that terrorists belonging to the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), which it refers to as “Fitna-al-Hindustan” , carried out attacks at multiple locations across the province.

Pakistani authorities use the term Fitna-al-Hindustan for certain Balochistan-based terrorists groups, alleging they receive external support from India.

Bugti said 17 members of law enforcement agencies, including police, paramilitary Frontier Corps personnel and one navy serviceman, were killed in the violence. He added that 31 civilians were also killed, while several others were injured.

Earlier, the military said 15 security personnel and 18 civilians, including women and children, were killed during the attacks and subsequent operations.

Balochistan, Pakistan’s largest but least populated province, has long faced separatist and militant violence, with repeated attacks targeting security forces, infrastructure and civilians. Authorities say operations against militant groups in the province are ongoing.
