ISLAMABAD - Pakistan’s military announced on Monday that 14 militants allegedly affiliated with an Indian-backed proxy group were killed during an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in North Waziristan, as part of its ongoing campaign to counter cross-border terrorism.

According to a statement from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Wednesday, the operation was launched on June 2–3 in the Datta Khel area of North Waziristan District, following intelligence reports about the presence of armed militants belonging to Fitna al Khwarij, a group the Pakistani military describes as an Indian proxy.

“During the conduct of the operation, own troops effectively engaged the Indian-sponsored Khwarij location, and after an intense exchange of fire, 14 Indian-sponsored Khwarij were sent to hell,” the ISPR said in its official release.

The military added that sanitization operations are ongoing in the area to eliminate any remaining militants. The statement reaffirmed Pakistan’s resolve to root out what it describes as Indian-sponsored terrorism and to ensure peace and stability within its borders.

“This operation is part of Pakistan’s broader commitment to eliminate the menace of foreign-backed militancy from the country,” the ISPR added.

While the identities of those killed have not been independently verified, Pakistani authorities claim the group was involved in multiple terror-related incidents and received support from across the border.

North Waziristan, a region along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border, has been a key battleground in Pakistan’s counterterrorism efforts over the past decade. The area has witnessed numerous military operations aimed at dismantling militant networks operating within and across the border.

The recent operation marks another escalation in the ongoing war of narratives between the two nuclear-armed neighbors, already strained by recent border tensions and airspace violations.
